Tek Ltd, specialists in acoustic enclosures, is pleased to announce its collaboration with Wates on the redevelopment of Rose Gardens, Feltham. The scheme, erecting 3 new Class C residential units, provides 42 new affordable and sustainable homes that focus on low-energy, greener solutions. This is in line with Hounslow Council’s plans to reduce carbon emissions in the borough to Net Zero by 2030.
Noisy air source heat pumps call for acoustic enclosures
Tek was contacted by Jack Holloway, Senior Design Manager at Wates for the best solution to reduce the noise generated by the air source heat pumps located on the roof of each of the three blocks, it was determined that a loss of 34db Rw was required. The main aims of this project, aside from choosing the acoustic requirements were to utilise the small space on the roof area, to be as non-intrusive to neighbouring buildings as possible and to keep costs to a minimum.
After hearing the client’s requirements, the Tek acoustics team, in conjunction with manufacturing, concluded that the most efficient solution would be an acoustic panel enclosure. All enclosures are manufactured in-house and customised to suit the specific requirements of the project.
“The modular design of our screens alongside the handiwork of our expert technicians means a streamlined manufacturing process, easy shipping and installation,” said James Cartland, Director, Tek.
An AP50 enclosure around each group of air source heat pumps (ASHP) was selected, designed and built by Tek Ltd.
What is an AP50 acoustic enclosure?
The AP50 acoustic enclosure consists of 50mm Rockwool insulation sandwiched between a skin of perforated steel facing the air source heat pump and galvanised steel facing outwards. This design maximises sound absorption whilst retaining a high level of structural integrity. This screen was mounted into a post and rail system sunk with chemical resin anchors to ensure it can withstand all weathers. In order to meet the client’s aesthetic requirements, the height of the screen was kept as low as possible whilst still allowing for optimal performance and airflow. These elements alongside the sleek design and a neutral finish guaranteed that the screen was not an eyesore.
Installation’s a breeze with Tek’s fitters
Working with our highly skilled fitters, we overcame the issues of tight spacing and poor weather conditions to have the screen erected and secured promptly. A day was spent moving the kit to the relevant areas and two days were spent installing each enclosure. Due to the lack of space and an unaccounted mansafe, the door positioning was changed on Block A, meaning a new door had to be manufactured and installed after the initial installation.
Tek Ltd is known across the construction industry for its innovation within the acoustics and natural ventilation industry. It remains ahead of the curve in high-performance solutions and for its commitment to its clients in an ever-changing landscape in terms of quality and sustainability.
