Birmingham company Tek Ltd is delighted to be supplying its louvres (Louvred screens and louvred doors) to the new home of the BBC – The Tea Factory in Digbeth, Birmingham. The building is the former Typhoo Tea Factory and is a BREEAM Outstanding project which will be the greenest of all BBC buildings. The redevelopment is being designed and led by Howell’s Architects.
A number of Tek’s bespoke aluminium EL50 louvres (screens and doors) are being manufactured at the company’s Birmingham factory and are due to be installed in the next few weeks. Type EL50 External louvres are standard, fixed blade weather louvres with built-in water turnbacks, particularly suitable for smaller panels on standard supply and extract applications.
These external louvres come complete with an integrated bird and insect mesh screen. The pitch is 50mm and the depth is 50mm. These units can be supplied with a choice of frame to suit most building applications.
Commenting on the project, James Cartland, Sales Director at Tek said “We are honoured to be involved in the redevelopment of this lovely art deco building, thanks to contractors, BAM Construction. It will play a big part in the regeneration of the Digbeth area and will be home to 700 BBC staff.”
The Tea Factory is due to open in 2026.
