Tek Ltd has supplied a range of louvres for 1000 Discovery Drive. The state-of-the-art building is a 1000 sq ft office and laboratory space occupied by Cambridge University NHS Foundation’s histopathology department. Built by SDC , the building is striking in both appearance and performance with a BREEAM excellent rating.
Tek’s EL50 louvres with insulated blanking to the rear were fitted to the facade of the building by MTW Architectural. Also, Tek supplied and installed louvres for the plantroom on the roof on behalf of SDC.
“The challenge fitting the rooftop plant screen was working around the steelwork from the inside. We worked to minimise the use of a cherry picker from the outside in order to support the programme and landscape works underway at the same time,” said James Cartland, Sales Director, Tek Ltd.

Different angles and challenging designs
Since the building is has some interesting angles externally, the design team at Tek were faced with a challenging design and installation process when working on the louvre doors for the external stores. Staff visited site to take specific measurements of each area rather than designing off plan. Each set of doors is bespoke and made to measure.
What are EL50 louvres?
Type EL50 External louvres are fixed blade weather louvres . They have built-in water turnbacks and are suitable for smaller panels on standard supply and extract applications. They are supplied with bird/insect screens and, in this project, there is also insulated blanking to the rear. A choice of frames are available with EL50 louvres to suit the building.
